Day 15 - Favorite Lead Couple : Dae Gu and Soo Sun from You Are All Surrounded

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure that I can pick a 'favorite' lead couple. There are so many great couples that I love that I keep going back and forth. So instead of making a final decision I settled on a lead couple that I absolutely love. Maybe they are my favorite lead couple, I just can't be sure. Anyway, the couple I settled on is Dae Gu and Soon Sun from You Are All Surrounded portrayed by the charming Lee Seung Gi and the flawless Go Ara.

This is my second favorite drama (coming in very closely behind Pinocchio), so it stands to reason that I would love the main couple as well. What's surprising to me is I didn't choose a lead couple from a romance, or even one where the romance was a focal point. This is an action cop drama. I don't typically go for action dramas so I was shocked when I loved it so much. A good portion of my love for this drama stems from the relationship between Dae Gu and Soo Sun.

Soo Sun and Dae Gu, then known as Ji Yong, have a run-in as teenagers that set them at odds at first, but they both learn to understand the other. However, before they can fully patch things up Dae Gu's life is thrown into chaos and the last time Soo Sun sees him, he's fleeing from a killer. She thinks he's dead and he's changed his name to Dae Gu so she doesn't realize who he is when they're reunited years later when they both become detectives for the same precinct.  He recognizes her right away and dismisses her as na├»ve and is even upset when they become partners. He's developed a hard outer shell after what's he's gone through becoming cold and no-nonsense. Even though Soo Sun doesn't know who Dae Gu really is, she cares for him a lot as her partner. She does her best to make sure he's safe and well taken care of and he can't help but fall for her heart and how she protects the ones she cares about.

When Soo Sun finds out that the boy she knew as Ji Yong is alive, even though she doesn't yet know he's Dae Gu, she is moved to tears out of relief.  Dae Gu continues to be touched by her as they grow closer as partners.  Soo Sun eventually finds out who he really is and the two develop strong feelings for one another.  They protect and comfort one another through the trials they face.  Basically they are perfect for one another and absolutely adorable in how considerate and concerned for one another they are.

Soo Sun as a character is enthusiastic and diligent and overall she's just very lovable. Dae Gu at first thinks himself above the trivial pursuit of happiness and therefore finds her annoying, but he can't help but fall for her charms and she unintentionally softens him. She's patient with him and relentlessly good to him and it's not even because she has feelings for him. Before she falls for him, the plutonic love she has for her co-workers and even more so for her partner is a testament to her character. She's the only one who could do for Dae Gu what she does by reminding him that there's more in the world to pursue than revenge.

I love, love, love this drama and equally love, love, love this couple.  Like I said, the romance isn't the focal point of the story. It's a side element to Dae Gu coming to terms with his past and the experiences these rookies detective have, but it is an important and integrated part of the story. It's one of my favorite dramas to rewatch for both the action scenes and the adorable relationship between Dae Gu and Soo Sun. They have so many memorable scenes together that it makes you wish for more couples like them!

Anyone else love this drama and couple as much as I did? Who are your favorite lead couples? Let me know!!! Want more favorites and bests? Follow along with my whole 31 day kdrama challenge here.
