Entertainer Episodes 3 & 4 Recap

Hi again friends! Been a week already.  I'm combining this week's episodes of Entertainer into one post since I've already watched them both and it seems silly to post them separately considering. So let's get right into it.

Episode 3
Geu Rin and Suk Ho show up just as Kyle and Ha Neul are performing and they knock it out of the park after Ha Neul gains his confidence. Suk Ho is surprised when a guitar player that he one met at a karaoke bar, Yeon Soo, comes and finds him after learning that he's starting his own company.  Suk Ho tells him he's already got a guitar player, but it turns out Yeon Soo plays bass too.

It's a match made in heaven until Yeon Soo shows up the next day with a kid in tow. His kid! He has a 5 year old son, Chan Hee that takes to Ha Neul immediately, but Suk Ho is not down for having a dad in the band and neither is Kyle.  Ha Neul disagrees and reminds Suk Ho that he's a criminal.

After some soul-seraching, Suk Ho gives in and invites Yeon Soo back into the band. Kyle's not happy, but he wants to be in the band and he knows there's not much he can do. He, Yeon Soo, and Chan Hee go to Busan to practice with Ha Neul since he's a student and can't make it to Seoul as frequently as they need. After practice, they go over to Ha Neul's house, but some local kids have defaced the gate with the words 'rapist' and 'perfect'. Kyle freaks out and realizes what it means and goes back to Seoul, but Yeon Soo takes Chan Hee and they paint pictures over the graffiti. What a great Dad. That's such a great lesson to teach your son.

Kyle goes and complains to Suk Ho who basically tells him that he can either accept it or Suk Ho will help him join another band.  Kyle gets mad and tells Min Joo who isn't happy.  Things are getting messy for Suk Ho on other fronts as his old subordinate, Joo Han convinces the record company that borrowed Suk Ho money to retract it.

We get a glorious cameo from Park Shin Hye who plays a manager and visits Mango (Suk Ho's company) with Min Joo. Min Joo urges Suk Ho to drop Ha Neul like he's hot. But Suk Ho's a loyal mofo and considers no such thing. That doesn't stop Ha Neul from overhearing.

Geu Rin asks to see Suk Ho and tells him she wants to be Ha Neul's manager. Ha Neul has something to tell Suk Ho as well and that is that he's leaving the band. He gifts him a Nirvana CD and box of caramels as a parting gift. We see a flashback to Ha Neul's older brother, Sung Hyun, Suk Ho, and Ha Neul all hanging out when Ha Neul was a kid.  Suk Ho was going to make Ha Neul a star. That day Suk Ho taught Ha Neul about Nirvana. and caramels were a favorite treat of Sung Hyun.

Episode 4
Suk Ho has figured out who Ha Neul is now and digs through his things to find the same CD that he showed to Ha Neul that day 10 years ago. He is confused now about how Geu Rin is related to Ha Neul because she wasn't in the picture when he knew Sung Hyun.

Kyle finds out that Ha Neul quit the band and so he goes to meet up with Suk Ho in Busan to convince Ha Neul to come back. But when they get there Ha Neul won't see him, but Geu Rin lets them crash at their house while Ha Neul's at the center. Suk Ho confesses to Geu Rin that he originally had dishonest intentions with Ha Neul and wanted to use him, but not anymore. Now he's going to make him into a star.

Geu Rin tells Suk Ho the whole story of what happened the night Ha Neul was accused of assault. He went to a place he used to meet up with Ji Young and saw her being groped, but someone hit him in the head from behind. When he woke up the cops were there and he was accused of being the culprit. Geu Rin asks Suk Ho to look into what really happened with Ji Young after seeing her at his old company. He says he will and gives her a box to give to Ha Neul as her first task as manager to get him to rejoin the band. Kyle confronts Ha Neul about quitting, calling him arrogant for deciding for other people he doesn't want to hurt them all the while ruining everyone's chances at success.

Suk Ho starts snooping around at the company and learns that Ji Young joined the company and displaced a member of a group that was about to debut.  He knows that means she had something on them. Ha Neul receives the box from Suk Ho which had the same Nirvana CD from 10 years ago along with a contract that young Ha Neul signed in marker saying he would make a CD with Suk Ho. Ha Neul breaks down, sobbing at the memory and from missing his brother.

Suk Ho finds Ji Young and confronts her, but she doesn't reveal any information. He confronts Joo Han who seems nervous, but says he doesn't know what Suk Ho is talking about. Suk Ho is getting really anxious to find out who framed Ha Neul because things seem to be pretty serious. At home, Ha Neul still seems stubborn about not rejoining the band. He and Geu Rin are watching TV and see Ji Young debuting on TV. They're aghast and upset. But Ha Neul still doesn't find the gumption to join the band again so Geu Rin threatens to move out and we find out her parents died when she was in 8th grade and Ha Neul's parents took her in. Since then all she's cared about is making them proud and taking care of Ha Neul. This seems to move Ha Neul and he agrees to go to Seoul. He's back in the band.

With urging from his CEO, Joo Han tells Suk Ho he'll reveal the real culprit behind Ji Young's assult. They meet up and Joo Han tells him the culprit is about to walk in and when the door opens, in walks Jin Woo. Jin Woo, if you recall was the leader of Jackson, Suk Ho's band and the apple of his eye. He though of Jin Woo as his whole family and the episode ends as Suk Ho realizes the implications and starts to get furious.

There's so much drama, but I love it.  I'm hoping the romance goes in an unexpected way in this drama because I feel absolutely no chemistry between Jisung and Geu Rin. I actually think her and Yeon Soo would make the perfect couple. She'd be a great mom to Chan Hee and they're both so adorable. Anyway, that's just my opinion. There's still lots of drama to come on this drama. Until then, embrace the drama my friends!

Entertainer Episode 2 Recap

Well friends, the first week's worth of episodes for Entertainer have aired. What did you think? If you missed it, let me give you the run-down.

After Suk Ho hears Ha Neul's song at the academy, he makes it his mission to find him. He ends up getting Geu Rin's contact information from the school director and when that doesn't work, he sets off trying to track Ha Neul down on foot. He finally finds him and follows him around all the way to the ledge of a wall over-looking a cliff, where Ha Neul stand presumably to jump. He goes into major stalker mode, which is creepy but...

Suk Ho tells Ha Neul that he shouldn't die without doing what he wants in life and tells him that he wants to help him become a singer. So saving his life kind of made up or the creepiness. They sit down to have a talk at Subway, where they apparently serve burgers in Korea which is something that I'm having a hard time dealing with.

Ha Neul turns down his offer, but not before Suk Ho gives him his business card.  Ha Neul realizes that he knows Suk Ho from when he was a little boy after seeing his name. It seems he was a friend of his older brothers (you know, the one that died from music somehow). He thinks about it for a little while and eventually agrees to do it on one condition, it has to be him as part of a band rather than a ballad singer. Suk Ho reluctantly agrees.

Together, they go to get Geu Rin's permission, but she doesn't grant it so easily. She doesn't trust Suk Ho with good reason. He's kind of shady. She runs into Suk Ho again at her part-time job. They have an awkward moment, where he tries to save her from being hit by a bike and ends up holding her and they have that Kdrama awkward stare stand-off that screams the start of something romantic. I feel indifferent to their romantic prospects right now.  Geu Rin has yet to win me over, but she has time. Moving on-

Suk Ho ends up recruiting a guitar player for his band, Kyle who studied at Juliard. But before things can start going well, Geu Rin finds out that Suk Ho got arrested for drunk driving and left his company to start his own. Ha Neul sees a kindred spirit in Suk Ho after getting falsely accused himself and it doesn't sway his decision to join his company.

Geu Rin continues to notice things about Ji Young's, the girl who accused Ha Neul of sexual assault, family. They're acting weird and she's onto them. She even thinks she sees Ji Young at Suk Ho's old company. Ha Neul and Kyle may just be a two-man band for now but it's a start and Suk Ho has signed them up for a televised talent competition- Kpop star. Geu Rin tells Ha Neul she doesn't trust Ha Neul, but he reminds her that people don't trust him either and he's innocent.

Ha Neul and Kyle go to the talent competition meanwhile, the songwriter that committed suicide's brother comes and kicks the crap out of Suk Ho.  Ha Neul starts to falter while he's singing remembering how his parents died in a car accident and Geu Rin came to tell him while he was performing, but when she shows up he gains confidence and starts to do well. And that's where our episode ends tonight.

What did you guys think? This drama wasn't what I was expecting but I'm definitely enjoying it.  Let me know what you think if you're watching it. Until next time embrace the drama, my friends.

Entertainer Episode 1 Recap

Hi there friends, here's my first Entertainer recap as promised. I'll try to keep these recaps brief but sassy to give you the best of both worlds as Hannah Montana would say. Not that I ever watched Hannah Montana. Anyway...

Entertainer starts out by introducing us to the schmoozing music director, who apparently loves ABBA, Shin Suk Ho played by Ji Sung.  He's getting ready to branch out and become the CEO of his own music company along with his current company's star group 'Jackson'. Maybe their name is supposed to be a reference to Michael Jackson, but I keep thinking of Jackson from GOT7. Anyway, even though everything's perfectly legal on his end, it doesn't look like his company is going to let him go so easily. They try to convince one of the mangers who's supposed to go with Suk Ho to betray him by telling him they should make a movie with an actress that he shows him a picture of. Something about the way he looks at the picture of this teenage-looking girl makes me thinks he might be his sister.

Meanwhile we meet Jung Geu Rin played by Hye Ri as she shows up at a court hearing for her brother, Ha Neul- played by the wonderful Kang Min Hyuk, who has been falsely accused of sexual assault against his classmate.  The sister and brother have different last names, so there seems to be some sort of story there, but we're unsure of what yet.

So even though Ha Neul's innocent, his vindictive classmate Ji Young says he tried to molest her and Ha Neul is sentenced to a couple months in juvenile detention. Although it seems it's not as intense as the retention centers for juveniles in the USA and instead more of a secure boarding house.

Suk Ho is trying to make the last single he puts out with his currently company a big hit and pulls out all the resources to do so and it works. Jackson's single is a big hit. Geu Rin goes and begs Ji Young's mom to see reason, saying she knows Ha Neul didn't, but the woman doesn't budge.  Poor Geu Rin feels awful for Ha Neul and he, in turn, feels horrible for what it's doing to her.

A hiccup comes for Suk Ho when the writer of Jackson's big hit, comes in and demands that he be listed as the writer on the album instead of the group's leader, Jin Woo. He won't be bought off by money even when Suk Ho offers him lots of it and the writer threatens to sue and then leaves the place in tears. Geu Rin continues to miss Ha Neul and thinks it's odd when she see that Ji Young's younger brother with an expensive new cell phone.

Suk Ho goes out drinking and schmoozing when he gets a call that the songwriter committed suicide. Jin Woo texts Suk Ho that he wants to die (out of guilt), Suk Ho tries to call him while driving and ends up getting in an accident. And uh-oh, he was drinking. The person he hits refuses to settle because - get this - the manager who was supposed to be Suk Ho's partner tells him not to. He's been bought off by the current company and has been promised he'll be a director. Suk Ho is in prison and he finds out that Jackson resigned with their current company instead of going to the new company that he was starting.

He gets out of prison to find out that pretty much everyone betrayed him. He tries to be friendly with the group and send them a group chat, but they all ignore him. Then he finds out he has to pay back part of the loan he took out to start his new company right away. He goes to a friend to ask to borrow money and his friend makes him follow him around all day before telling him no -because Suk Ho did that to him once.

You feel kind of bad for the guy, but at the same time it's clear that he's been living a life treating people poorly.  It seems to be karma, but all the same, my heartstrings are still greatly tugged when he breaks down into tears.

Ha Neul is out of the juvenile detention center. We learn that he's a musician, but that his parents begged not to do music anymore, because something happened with music that supposedly killed his brother.  He goes back to his old academy and tells his teacher that he won't ever sing again. The teacher's bummed because he had made the school a really great jingle

Suk Ho is sitting outside of this academy by chance and hears Ha Neul's jingle. As soon as the song started,  I could tell it was Min Hyuk's voice in a heartbeat. The song's about not giving up and you can see Suk Ho is moved and taking it to heart. Ha Neul comes out of the academy and sees Suk Ho being moved by his music and you can tell it's about to be the start of a beautiful partnership.

So there's our first episode! It's hard to give a first impression as of yet. I always try to wait 3 episodes. The first episode is a little slow, but I have a feeling that's because they want to build a broad foundation for this story.  Kang Min Hyuk is what made me decide that this drama would be my comeback and so far he has not been disappointing. I have yet to watch Answer Me, 1988 so I'm excited to see what Hye Ri's acting skills are like. I also think Ji Sung has a really great face and I love to watch it. I do have high expectations to be greatly entertained by Entertainer.

If you're wondering where you can watch Entertainer it's going to depend on your country but here in the US you can watch it on Dramafever at this link here with new episodes every Wednesday and Thursday. Be on the look out for another recap and our first drama club posting by the end of the week. I'll be posting all Entertainer-related posts on my Entertainer Home Page here.

Until then, embrace the drama!

I've Missed You

Hellllllloooo friends, I'm back! Sorry to take a month-long unexpected hiatus.  Truthfully, I was considering giving up Kdrama blogging. I kept reading a lot of negative and angry comments about Kdramas on different sites I write for and it was really getting me down.

I really love Kdramas, but the purpose of them is entertainment. I watch them to enjoy myself and if there's a Kdrama I don't enjoy I  know that there is someone out there who does and so why would I ever hate on it? I kept reading comments from people who felt it was their job to tell others how crappy a drama was and criticize those who liked it. I've only ever had positive experiences here on my personal blog and I thank my friends for that, but elsewhere I was exhausted by the anti-fans. I realized I needed some time away from Kdrama blogging for a bit.

But after a month away, I've realized how much I missed all the positive interactions I've had with people talking about dramas. That the good does outweigh the bad. And mostly how happy being part of the Kdrama family makes me.  So I'm back spur of the moment with a new drama club, new memes, and even some new recaps. I'm not sure if I'll be doing individual recaps for the whole series, but to celebrate the premiere of Entertainer tonight, I'll have my first recaps and memes for you later this evening.

It's great to be back friends! Embrace the drama.
